'Tis the season for colds, involving runny noses, cough, sore throat, loss of voice, accompanied by general malaise. The same holds true for allergies!
Do see the doctor for proper medication and treatment, especiallly if you are running a fever. Also, if sick, a check up is good when you have an upcoming performance.
Here are some home remedies that can ease some of those discomforts:
Drink some hot tea with honey (local is best) & lemon....herbal teas or green tea are great.
Hot soups are soothing, especially chicken soup.
Get plenty of rest....nature's way of healing.
When you go outside, bundle up and cover your ears, head and neck.
Gargle with warm salt water, Listerine, or diluted apple cider vinegar.
Steaming is great. Make a pot of boiling water & put a towel over your head to inhale the steam. Use a vaporizer at night or put a pan of water on your radiator. Put Essential oil in your Diffuser (i.e. Eucalyptus, lavendar, pine).
If using a Diffuser, lemon oil is great to clean the air, is good for the immune system and is uplifting. A student mentioned another oil to diffuse is Tea Tree Oil to clean the air.
Avoid re-infecting yourself by putting the head of your toothbrush in Hydrogen Peroxide after use. Wipe your phone and devices with alcohol.
Wash your hands diligently and use a hand sanitizer, especially after using subway. If you are with a group of people, do not shake hands (i.e. rehearsals, exercise class).
Control your sneezing....sneeze into kleenex!. Forgot the kleenex? An article on this said to use t. tissue or piece of material on your body (not your hands unless you have sanitizer to use asap). Other people will thank you for not spreading the germs, so do remember to bring your kleenex.
I personally keep Do Terra throat drops handy, and keep my throat and mouth moist with sips of water. Everyone is different, but I find cough drops are very drying.
